Is this the loveliest entrance to a council office in Britain? Want to see local democracy in action? Well you can. Go along to Kirkby Stephen's Community and Council Centre (it's at 17 Market St, above the library, but use the back entrance on Church Walk) on the first Tuesday of the month at 6.45pm and you'll get a ringside seat as the town's elected members go about their business.
