KSGS students Joe Davis and Richard Hunter
report on one of the town's liveliest groups
The Scouts are a great group
to join to make friends and broaden your horizons.
It is very cheap, only £15 a
school term! You have to be aged between 10½ and 13½.
In scouts you can do things you would not usually be
able to do as the leaders hire trained professionals to teach you and
make sure you’re safe.
Kirkby Stephen scouts is perfect if you like getting
outdoors. There are loads of activities to do in summer, including
climbing, canoeing, caving, fishing, golf and camping.
In winter they do woodwork, loads of games, talks, first-aid and
pioneering
Kirkby Stephen Scout group is based at
a wooden hut at Mellbecks in Kirkby Stephen, and meets every two
weeks at 7pm-9pm on Tuesdays.
Everybody in the group has their own
uniform, which you will need to buy. When a scout is good at an
activity they will get a badge, and there are hundreds of badges to
earn.
The scout leaders, Tim Davis and
Heather Leach, are very dedicated to the group and put in a lot of
work. They are always on the lookout for helpers and young leaders.
