KSGS students Dan
Cook & Jonny Bolton on Gary Payton's excellent club
Gary
Payton started running Brazilian football in 2003. He started it
because it is different to other football and it gives children who
wouldn’t normally play for a normal football club a chance to have
a go at footy.
Gary
hopes that Brazilian football will be an ongoing club. As a group the
achievements that have been made have been: it has improved kids
ability and has made some people even go to county trials.
Gary
does not get many problems but one problem is the venues and lack of
facilities. Sometimes it is difficult to find a big enough area to
play in with facilities such as parking and toilets. We are lucky at
the Grammar School because we have a great area to play in with all
the facilities we need including changing rooms.
He
enjoys running Brazilian football because it is fun, there is music,
there is a little ball, and finally, kids benefit from it. It keeps young
people fit.
Gary
has some helpers - especially Matt Harris (a professional
football coach) and Eddy Winbow and Connor Cannon,
two sixth formers here at the grammar school. Gary thinks that the
helpers are all a massive part of the success of Brazilian football.
In
the future, Gary plans to have more fixtures and teams in national
competitions.
In
case you’re wondering what the difference between Brazilian
football and English football is, it's the technique of the players and
their skill, this is because Brazilians practice their ball skills far more and
get used to it.
