Katie
Johns interviewed Janette McWhirter, founder of the club
Janette
started the cycling club three years ago with high hopes - she would
love to have champions in her cycling group representing Great
Britain, and hopefully a few more more members.
She
hasn’t got a website yet because she says she’s no good with
computers - but she would love someone to make her one.
Janette
also says that, really, Dr Jacqueline Merckel organises the club, and
Mr Mike Sunderland and Mr Mark Walsh do all the work - so she enjoys
it because she doesn’t need to do much!
Her
group cycles a variety of routes. The ladies group cycles Sunday once
or twice every month, their furthest ride has been 45 miles - but all
at a leisurely pace.
There
is a junior group which meets on Thursdays after school.
And
she has been spending money on some very handy Portakabins which
arrived at February half term. The funding for those came from
members of the community who kindly made donations.
To
join the cycling club, contact Janette on 017683
71693. She says she
would love to see lots more people getting involved in the club
because not only is it fun and great exercise, it's also a chance to
meet new people.
